Tane Mahuta Day by Room 5

We celebrated Tane Mahuta Day.
We had a good look at all the beautiful trees at Hamilton East School.

We looked at the leaves.
We looked at the trunk and touched the bark.

We threw the leaves in the air.

The Redwood tree is massive.
We think it is awesome.
Katie says the Redwood tree is taller than her Dad.
We sketched the Redwood tree too.
We even wrote about our favourite trees at Hamilton East School.
I  like  the  Kauri  tree.  It  is  big.

Harvest Festival by Room 4

The harvest festival was yummy because we got to try heaps of food.
It was fun because we were with lots of other classes.

There were silverbeet rolls and roti.
We ate sunflower seeds. They tasted like peanut butter.
There was a chilli tomato sauce with flat bread. It was spicy.

There were beans as well.
There was lettuce and tomatoes. We ate the tomatoes with our hands.
We even got to taste potatoes.

Room 4 shared zucchini cake, herb scones and banana muffins.

Banana Muffins for the Harvest Festival by Room 4

Tomorrow we are having a Harvest Festival at school. Today we made banana muffins so we can share them with the other classes at our school.
Anna had frozen bananas. They were cold like an iceblock. The skins on the bananas were black not yellow.

We put in yoghurt, 1 egg, sugar, flour, and oil. Then we mixed it all up.

We poured the mixture into the muffin tin.
After they were cooked we had a taste test. The muffins tasted yum.

Tomorrow we will share banana muffins, zucchini cake and herb scones with the rest of our  school.

Silver Award

We were presented with our Silver Award at Positive Assembly.
Some special people came to give it to us - Andrea Soanes from Waikato Regional Council, Lois Livingston who is a councillor for Waikato Regional Council, Gareth from Hamilton City Council and Robyn from Enviro Schools.

Our Silver Award is now on the wall outside the office.
It looks fabulous and everyone will know we are a Silver Award Enviro School.

The Koha Table by Room 4

Every Wednesday Room 12 organises a Koha Table at morning tea time.
People bring things they have been growing in their gardens at school or at home to share or swap with other people.
We had 3 tomatoes that we had grown but Room 4 really needs a zucchini so we can make a zucchini cake.
We swapped our tomatoes for a zucchini.
Georgia brought some grapes from her house and so we could also have a taste of them. Some people thought they tasted sour and other people thought they tasted delicious.
Here is the zucchini Room 4 is going to use in the zucchini cake we will make.
Thanks Room 12 for organising the Koha Table.
We love sharing.

Enviro Schools Silver Reflection

Late last year a group of Enviro students worked with Robyn from Enviro Schools and Andrea from the Waikato Regional Council. They discussed the things that make our school an Enviro School.
We looked at the Enviro School principles and the things we do at Hamilton East School that fit with those principles.

Look at how our ideas made this beautiful tree.

Here are the ideas we wrote down -
(we said a lot more when we were talking)

The great thing is after all our discussions and thinking we realised that Hamilton East School had earned a Silver Enviro Award.
Congratulations.

Kitchen Garden

Look at how our Kitchen Garden has been growing over the holidays!
The wildflowers look beautiful.

All of the plants have been growing so well with the sun and rain we have had.
