Paper 4 Trees

Our school is part of "Paper 4 Trees".
This means for the paper and cardboard we recycle we earn trees which we can then plant at our school. This year we chose raspberry plants, flax and a rewarewa tree. We think that the raspberries will be great in our Kitchen Garden. We hope that the tui and rewarewa attract more tui to our school.

Plum Tree

Today Mrs Leeson gave Hamilton East School a plum tree to plant in the Kitchen Garden.
We planted it behind the dental clinic because one day this could be a great orchard area.

Look at the roots of the plum tree.

Thankfully Dugan had dug a hole for us earlier. We put fertiliser in when we planted it. This will help it grow faster. Then we piled more soil in the hole.

Mrs Leeson had thought of everything, not only, did she have fertiliser she also had worm juice. We mixed this in with the water to help the plum tree grow stronger.

Look at gorgeous Room 14 with the new plum tree for our school.
Here is a vimeo of Room 14 helping to plant the tree.

Our Gardens

The footage in this vimeo was filmed by Shakshi and Tarn using a flip video. It was their first time filming with it and they have done a great job.
Listen carefully to the birds when they are filming in the Kitchen Garden.

Mother Duck

Guess who is back?
Mother Duck.

Mother Duck comes to our school every year to lay her eggs. Last year she laid one egg and the year before that she lay 10 eggs. We always have to be quiet when we are around her. When Mother Duck is laying her eggs she lays them in her nest.

Welcome back to Term 3

While we have been on holiday there have been changes around our school.
We have new soccer goals. Flowers have started to grow. We even saw a hedgehog snuffling around middle flat playground.
Take a look at the photopeach to see some of the changes.
