Our Gardens

The footage in this vimeo was filmed by Shakshi and Tarn using a flip video. It was their first time filming with it and they have done a great job.
Listen carefully to the birds when they are filming in the Kitchen Garden.

Mother Duck

Guess who is back?
Mother Duck.

Mother Duck comes to our school every year to lay her eggs. Last year she laid one egg and the year before that she lay 10 eggs. We always have to be quiet when we are around her. When Mother Duck is laying her eggs she lays them in her nest.

Welcome back to Term 3

While we have been on holiday there have been changes around our school.
We have new soccer goals. Flowers have started to grow. We even saw a hedgehog snuffling around middle flat playground.
Take a look at the photopeach to see some of the changes.

Planting Tree Onions

Today we planted our tree onions in the Kitchen Garden.
We had to go out in between the rain showers so we had to plant quickly before the rain started again.

We had to take the onion bulb out of its pot carefully. Then put it into the hole.
The tree onions will be ready in late summer.

Here is a vimeo showing giving some tips on how to plant tree onions.

Our school at lunchtime

We are really lucky at Hamilton East School to have such a wonderful learning environment. Here is a slideshow about the different areas of the school we play in during our break times.

Tree Onions

Last Thursday Room 14 planted some tree onion bulbs that Anna's Dad gave us. We had to call Anna's Dad to find out how to plant the tree onions. Luckily Anna put on loudspeaker so we could hear.
\
This is what the tree onions looked like. We used a trowel to put potting mix in the pot.

We had to gently put the tree onion in the soil. You have to make sure 1/3 of the onion is showing at the top.
Today we noticed that some of the tree onions have started to grow.

Swan Plants

When we went on the bank outside Room 13 we noticed these seed pods on the swan plants.
Inside these pods are seeds that look like this.
Room 14 is going to try and grow some swan plants from these seeds.
We wonder if it will work.
